What better way to see the beauty of Cape Town than from a helicopter?

Our 15 month old globetrotting son, Hugo, has already taken 20 plane rides in his life but this was his first time on a helicopter!

And thanks to Musement, we were given this incredible opportunity to take a 16-minute helicopter ride over one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Cape Town. Lucky us!

What is Musement?

Musement is an online booking platform that offers 1000’s of experiences worldwide. It makes booking tickets whilst on holidays seamless.

You can search from a variety of categories (Museum & Art, Performances, Tours & Attractions, Food & Wine, Active & Adventure, Sports and even Nightlife). Unlike other third-party booking sites (Hello Trip Advisor and Viator!) Musement doesn’t extort their ticket prices. The prices are fair and in some cases, actually cheaper.

Everything you want and need on a holiday, right?

Our Experience

Cape Town Helicopters

I have to admit, helicopters make me somewhat nervous but as soon as we were in the sky, the beauty of the surroundings took over and my nerves subsided. From the moment we booked our ticket until we landed on solid ground, we were well looked after by both Musement & Cape Town Helicopters.

We met our pilot at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town and after a small safety briefing of the do’s and don’ts, we were taken to the helicopter and away we went on our scenic flight.

Cape Town Helicopters

Cape Town, in our opinion, is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, with spectacular scenery only made more prominent from the sky. We flew over Table Mountain, Cape Town’s most iconic feature, as well as Lion’s Head, Signal Hill, the 12 Apostles and endless coastline with gorgeous white sandy beaches. To top off our experience, we saw 2 giant whales breaching out of the water, a total bonus!

Cape Town

Cape Town

Hugo loved his first experience in a helicopter (and hopefully something he won’t get used too!), his eyes were drawn to the window the entire time, pointing at the various beaches & things below. Since being in Cape Town, he’s really taken to the ocean and his eyes light up whenever we get close to it. Viewing it from above must have been just as exciting for him. It’s so fun to see the world through the eyes of a little human.

Note: It did state on our ticket that the experience would be 1.5 hours total, even though the helicopter tour itself would only be 16 minutes. I am not sure why it stated this duration, but there is no need to allow longer than 30-35 minutes for the whole experience!

Helicopters with a Baby

Some of you may be surprised to know that you can actually take babies and children on helicopters. After all, we take them on flights, right?  Unlike our doors off helicopter experience in NYC, this helicopter was fully enclosed (no surprises there) and safe for children ages 3 months and older.

Noise-cancelling headphones are given to every passenger, even the little ones, so try and encourage your child to wear them! Hugo hates anything that makes him feel restricted so he definitely wasn’t keen on wearing them for the entire duration of the flight but fortunately, the noise didn’t bother him. Pack a spare dummy (if they use one) and a snack or two just in case all goes pear-shaped up there – because, you know, kids! Unpredictable little humans.
